WARREN COUNTY 2008 WELLNESS CHALLENGE

Warren County 2008 Wellness Challenge is on…

Live like your life depends on it” This slogan from the Missouri Dept. of Health and Senior Services reminds us that we need to make healthy choices. Make 2008 your year to Move More and Get Fit.

In an effort to help Warren County meet the challenge to move more and get fit. The Warren County Health Dept. and The Missouri Extension Center have partnered to help our county to eat more healthy, engage in exercise and get regular health screenings.

We have met Jan. 14 and Feb. 11th at the Missouri Extension Center from 12:00 – 1:00.

We introduced nutrition information and the Walking Challenge. We gave out pedometers and water bottles.

March Update

Making Choices

A Simple Summary
  • Choose activities suited for your own level of fitness.
  • Don’t overdo it. Gradually increase your level of activity, taking it a step at a time.
  • The more regularly you exercise, the more fit you will become.
  • Long term fitness goals will keep you motivated; short term goals will keep you on track.
  • Your workout must be balanced and varied to ensure that it is safe, challenging, and interesting.
  • Keep a list of activities you like in your journal.

KEEP FOCUSED!!!!!
The best way to stay focused is to set both short and long term goals. Be realistic. Add minutes to your exercise routine each day. Don’t beat yourself up or quit- just because you missed a day or did not make your goal. Just keep focused on the long term outcome.

Now into our 3rd month- averaging 10,000 steps daily = 5 miles. The next 10 weeks we should be able to walk 250 miles; There are 252 miles across the state of Missouri. So that’s pretty close. Try it!! Let us know if you can do it!!!!

If you care to share your story---of how you are doing- please email us atrwalters@co.warren.mo.us
or call the Warren County Health dept. @ 636-456-7474

Our next Wellness Challenge meeting is April14th- 2008 12:00 noon Tell a friend!!!
